El Cajon Valley High School
You wouldn’t know it from the score, but the Lady Braves once again proved themselves. By holding Helix to only 4 goals, the Lady Braves broke the 4 year record that Helix held against them. For the first time in 8 games, the score was not 10-0 in favor of Helix.
The offense earned 2 penalty corners against Helix tonight, another first for the team. Unfortunately, again, the offense led by Warjeen Suleiman (’18) could not finish and score.
Of the 10 unsuccessful shots on goal against the Lady Braves, 8 were blocked by first year player and goal keeper Lana Lawrence (’21), and 2 were blocked by 4-year defender Eileen Villarreal (’18).
For her swift and effective defensive plays and saves, Eileen Villarreal was voted as Player of the Game by her teammates.
Coach Estrada was quoted as saying, “Other teams now will see you as the new and improved El Cajon Valley. You are distancing yourselves from the old perceptions,” in the post game huddle.
Ryan Trammell, Athletic Director at El Cajon Valley High School, shared, “We are proud of the steady improvements by our Lady Braves Field Hockey Program. They continue to conduct themselves with class both on and off the field.”
Any bystander would have confused the Lady Braves for having won the game because of how they celebrated their hard work and conducted themselves afterwards; smiling ear-to-ear.
The Lady Braves continue to prevail!
