Game Recap

You wouldn’t know it from the score, but the Lady Braves once again proved themselves. By holding Helix to only 4 goals, the Lady Braves broke the 4 year record that Helix held against them. For the first time in 8 games, the score was not 10-0 in favor of Helix.

The offense earned 2 penalty corners against Helix tonight, another first for the team. Unfortunately, again, the offense led by Warjeen Suleiman (’18) could not finish and score.

Of the 10 unsuccessful shots on goal against the Lady Braves, 8 were blocked by first year player and goal keeper Lana Lawrence (’21), and 2 were blocked by 4-year defender Eileen Villarreal (’18).
For her swift and effective defensive plays and saves, Eileen Villarreal was voted as Player of the Game by her teammates.

Coach Estrada was quoted as saying, “Other teams now will see you as the new and improved El Cajon Valley. You are distancing yourselves from the old perceptions,” in the post game huddle.
Ryan Trammell, Athletic Director at El Cajon Valley High School, shared, “We are proud of the steady improvements by our Lady Braves Field Hockey Program. They continue to conduct themselves with class both on and off the field.”

Any bystander would have confused the Lady Braves for having won the game because of how they celebrated their hard work and conducted themselves afterwards; smiling ear-to-ear.
The Lady Braves continue to prevail!

Meet Recap

The Braves do it again! 4th league win! 9th overall win of the season! Varsity defeats Monte Vista once again with a score of 13-5. Doubles did a phenomenal job by winning 8 out of 9 sets and singles 5 out of 9! All Varsity came out on the courts with the right mindset and did an exemplary job with footwork and strategy. JV came in very close the score was 9-8 we did not finish in time and got too dark to finish. JV step it up from last time we played them and improved so much that if we had played the last set we would have won! Great win Braves! Excellent effort. So proud!

Game Recap

The Lady Braves fought hard tonight for the result of a 4-0 loss versus Valhalla. After controlling game play for the majority of the match, the Lady Braves failed to finish. This resulted in many shots on goal, but no goals to show for the amount of effort which had been put in.

Coach Ramirez stated, “This was their best game of the season thus far. The score just doesn’t show how much they’ve improved over the course of the season, but the girls know how well they did and what they need to do to prepare for their game against Helix on Thursday.”

Marina Ybarra (’18) made 6 successful saves as goal keeper and kept her teammates motivated with each one. Her defenders Fanny Sarmiento (’18), Jocelyn Hernandez (’18), Eileen Villarreal (’18), and Katia Velazquez (’20) each contributed to the remaining saves against Valhalla’s 13 unsuccessful shots on goal.

Ariadna Cruz (’18) was voted as Player of the Game for improving on her dribbling, basic skills, and for her mesmerizing passes to set up her teammates for shots on goal. As a first year player, she has made great strides in mastering her position as forward.

Check in to see how the Lady Braves fare against the other Grossmont League teams as they continue their season!
